The OpenAI Strategy You Need to Know
Did you watch the OpenAI Dev Day announcements?
It was OpenAI quietly revealing its five-step strategy to own the future of AI - from apps to compute to distribution.
Here’s how the pieces connect 👇
1. Apps become native to ChatGPT.
OpenAI just launched an Apps SDK, turning ChatGPT from a chatbot into a platform.
Now, third-party developers can build fully interactive apps - think maps, playlists, dashboards - that live inside ChatGPT.
The web isn’t something you browse anymore. It’s something you talk to.
2. Agents become scalable products.
With AgentKit, OpenAI is industrializing the agent-building process.
A visual canvas, connectors, built-in evals - it’s the console moment for agentic AI.
SImilar to n8n and Make.com, but OpenAI has larger distrubution - more on it below.
3. Compute becomes the new moat.
OpenAI just struck a massive deal with AMD - 6 GW of GPU capacity. They’re ensuring the supply chain for the AI future doesn’t bottleneck at Nvidia. By owning the compute layer, OpenAI is securing the fuel that powers everything above it.
4. Interaction becomes real-time and multimodal.
Upgrades to Codex, Sora 2, and new real-time models make ChatGPT faster, more expressive, and capable of handling code, video, and voice seamlessly.
It’s conversation as an operating system.
5. Distribution becomes unstoppable.
ChatGPT now serves 100 million+ weekly active users. That’s not a product, that’s a nation-state of users.The prize isn’t users and AI - it’s users inside AI.
And you can get access to this user-base.
If you’re building in AI, you now have to decide:
“Do I build for ChatGPT - or compete with it?”
Put it all together - apps, agents, compute, interaction, and distribution - and you see the full picture.

Weekly Challenge: Build a Simple Workflow in AgentBuilder
OpenAI AgentBuilder lets you design real, functioning AI agents.
You’ll chain steps like Input → Reasoning → Action → Output right inside OpenAI’s new visual canvas.
💡 Important:
You’ll need ChatGPT Plus or API access - free users can’t build in AgentBuilder yet.
Howeever, you can watch the tutorial here to see it in action and learn:
Your challenge:
Build one simple workflow using AgentBuilder.
Here are three starter ideas you can try:
Daily Research Agent
→ Takes a topic, finds 3 insights, and outputs a short daily digest.Meeting Notes Agent
→ Takes a transcript, extracts action points, and lists owners & deadlines.Task Planner Agent
→ Takes a goal (“Launch a podcast”), breaks it into weekly steps, and outputs a clear plan.
👍 When done, share a screenshot of your AgentBuilder canvas and send it to me.

🎧 New Podcast: AI for the Rest of Us - with Sairam Sundaresan
Most AI conversations feel like they’re meant for engineers and researchers. But what about the rest of us - the teachers, founders, creatives, and professionals just trying to understand how AI fits into our work and life?
That’s exactly what this week’s YouTube podcast explores.
I sat down with Sairam Sundaresan, author of AI for the Rest of Us, to unpack
how anyone, regardless of background, can learn and adapt to AI without drowning in jargon.
💡 Who should watch
Non-technical professionals who want to finally understand AI in plain English.
Business leaders figuring out how to make AI work for their teams.
Builders and creators who believe AI should empower, not intimidate.
🚀 Why you’ll love this conversation
This isn’t another “how transformers work” discussion.
It’s about how humans can stay relevant - how to learn AI in a way that aligns with your role, your pace, and your purpose.
We talk myths, mindsets, and the truth about learning AI:
Why “learn to code” isn’t the only path.
How AI can make your current job easier (not disappear).
What it means to stay human in an increasingly automated world.
